Cricket is, without any doubt, one of the most popular sports in the world. Although the sport has been originated in England, Pakistan is one of the many countries where the passion for game touches the sky and it is evident via street cricket and local tournaments. Considering the primitive passion and widespread fame of the game among common people, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) introduced a new genre of the game called ‘Pakistan Super League’ (PSL) in 2015.

More About Pakistan Super League 2021

Pakistan Super League – most popularly known as PSL – is a unique tournament series like ODI, IPL, Test matches, etc. The only thing that set it apart is that it is played within the country between six major cities including Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Multan, and Quetta. It is recognised by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

There are more than one most interesting things about the league, but something that deserves a mention is that the event is quite similar to T20 cricket series.

The squads in the PSL do not only feature the top cricketers of Pakistan, but some teams also include most renowned international players. Darren Sammy, Alex Hales, Carlos Brathwaite, Luke Ronchi, Shane Watson, and Tom Banton are some mentions in this regard.

PSL at a Glance

Although the league was established in 2015 with five teams, the very first match of Pakistan Super League was played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2016. After receiving a tremendous response from cricket fans across the world, the series continued to exist as an association to Pakistani cricket.

Significance of PSL

After the 2009 incident with the Sri Lankan cricket team, Pakistani cricket lovers were abandoned from enjoying international cricket. But thanks to PCB, the final match of PSL 2017 brought cricket back home. 

The first match of the series was held in the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. 

While PSL revived international cricket in Pakistan, it’s not the only significance of the league. PSL plays an important role in discovering fresh and talented individuals from the corners of the country.

Due to safety concerns (Coronavirus), only two cities will be hosting the matches, Karachi and Lahore. On a side note, these are the two most popular stadiums in Pakistan.

PSL 2021 Schedule

Pakistan Super League 2021 will start in the month of February. The opening ceremony will be held on 20^th February in National Stadium, Karachi.

Furthermore, the performing artists for the opening ceremony of PSL 6 are Atif Aslam, Aima Baig, Young Stunners, Naseebo Lal and Imran Khan.
