Karachi: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari announced on Sunday that the Sindh Government would raze encroachments on Karachi’s drainage system and demolish illegal neighbourhoods once we have provided alternative housing to the occupants of these areas.

Addressing the crowd at KDA Chowrangi, Bilawal said that the provincial government is aiming to clean the storm water drains immediately by removing illegal occupancy. “However, we will not leave people homeless”, he further added.

Commenting on the current situation of the drainage system in the city, the Chairman PPP also said that since the green line project is affecting the city’s drainage system, the government needs to consider to fix it soon as well. He said that the people of the metropolis have suffered a lot due to unprecedented rains.

The statement was a day after Prime Minister Imran Khan announced a PKR 1.1 trillion package for Karachi Transformation Plan. As per the PM, the project will bring several improvements to the city’s infrastructure and the investment will be spent in a span of 3 years. In addition to that, the premier said that the fund in the package will be utilised to finance several other developments in the city.
