Amid all the chaos in the politics and the economy of Pakistan, COVID-19 spiked by 2.81% according to reports from the National Institute of Health (NIH) Pakistan. This is the highest rate of positive cases since the end of March. Also, it is an alarming situation for those who are not vaccinated yet.

Update (17 Feb 2022):
In the last 24 hours, around 2,597 new COVID-19 cases have been reported. However, the situation in the country is more likely to drop the positivity ratio by 5.4%—the total new confirmed cases of COVID-19 count at 1,488,958. The newly found studies show that the COVID-19 Omicron variant infects the throat without damaging the lungs. Such makes it more infectious virus than the deadly virus. Moreover, the Omicron variant doesn’t impact the lungs, which makes it less harmful to the Delta variant and other COVID variants.
According to National Command and Operation Centre’s (NCOC) data, cities’ positive rate is above 10%.

The strict COVID-19 precautions will ease down today (Tuesday), including regular classes and indoor dining. The school attendance with 50% will regulate to 100%. All the students above 12 years are required to be fully vaccinated to acquire 100% attendance. The significant dine-out situation will shift to indoor dining nationwide.

Increasing cases of coronavirus – omicron variant has alerted Pakistan Cricket Board for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season seven. The matches are scheduled from 27th January, and NCOC has decided to allow 25% of the audience at the stadium.
Karachi is a highly affected city with more than 3000 active cases of the Covid-19 variant. Considering the situation, National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) has decided to ban all kinds of indoor activities. Restaurants and wedding halls are not allowed for indoor dining.
The highly contagious Omicron variant has disturbed the tourism industry and tourism projects on a large scale. According to the research, tourism revenue in 2020 was 72 percent lower than in 2019. It has been said that global tourism will not return to the pre-pandemic levels until 2024.
Moreover, The WTO said in a press release on Tuesday, 18 January, “The pace of recovery remains slow and uneven across world regions due to varying degrees of mobility restrictions, vaccination rates, and traveler confidence.”

What Precautions Should Be Taken for Omicron Virus?
The fear of Omicron virus cases in the world specifically in Pakistan is rapidly increasing. Every country is struggling with the last pandemic, and the new thread of virus proved that the new normal is only be followed by taking self-precautions.
Protect yourself and your family by taking proper precautions, and following SOPs. These are some of the safety measures everyone must know:
- The most essential; wear a mask (which must cover your nose and mouth)
- Always wash your hand, and sanitize properly.
- Use tissue, or bent your elbow for cough or sneeze.
- Before eating, wearing mask, or shaking hands, make sure your hands are clean.
- Keep a distance of 1 meter with others.
- Try not to visit crowded places.
- Ventilate your space, let fresh air come in.
- Vaccination is the most effective way to fight from the COVID-19.
- Take elders of your family to get a vaccine.
- After vaccination keep the digital covid-19 certificate with you.
What is a Covid-19 Booster?
After a process of vaccination, there comes a vaccine booster. The raising of covid variants and their cases called for further protection, and the booster is the final dose.
