Islamabad: It is speculated that the Islamabad Ring Road Project will be initiated in the first quarter of 2021, as per news sources. The official approval for this project has been given on Friday, 4th September 2020.
The news source claims that the Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar has decided that development funds will be allocated to the Ring Road Project under the Federal Annual Development Programme in the current fiscal year.
The initial proposal for the project was made one year ago; this was around the time that the related development of the Rawalpindi Ring Road project was nearing its end. Both the ring road plans were initiated with the purpose to provide an alternate route for the traffic for the residents of the twin cities.
The overseeing development committee for the Islamabad Ring Road project has not yet been finalised. However, the sources claim that the project will be developed by private partners who will be given the right to operate the toll plazas on the two roads for a specific time period. This provision will be in exchange for their services.
As per the report, the Islamabad project would stretch over 50 km – starting from Sangjani, looping around Islamabad and the Margalla Avenue, and ending near the express highway.
In short, the starting point of the Islamabad Ring Road Project will be where the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) ends; and the ending point will be where the RRR will start.
The sources also stated that the Rawalpindi Ring Road project’s inauguration is expected to be performed in November this year, while the Islamabad Ring Road project would be held in the first quarter of 2021.
