Your Guide to Stay Active During Ramadan

Highlights of the post:
Balanced diet
Hydration
Limit your caffeine intake
Take a walk
Stay indoors
Exercise during fasting
Sleeping schedule

In the holy month of Ramadan, the Muslim community needs to fast from dusk till dawn, while also going on about their day. Some of us have to work, while some of us have to study, however, not consuming anything for hours makes one feel drowsy and lazy, making it quite hard for us to get anything done. There is no need to worry; to help you overcome the problem of Ramadan fatigue, we have compiled a list of the best tricks to aid you in staying active during Ramadan.

On a side note, lend a hand to these charity organisations, and receive the rewards tenfold during this holy month.

Let’s Begin!

Best Tips to Stay Active during Ramadan

A list of ways to make your Ramadan more productive

Follow the below mentioned tips to stay active during Ramadan, while being productive and energetic:

  • Keep a balanced diet
  • Hydrate yourself
  • Limit your caffeine intake
  • Take a walk
  • Stay indoors
  • Exercise during fasting
  • Fix your sleeping schedule

Keep a Balanced Diet

Eating food rich in fiber helps you stay active while fasting

Just the thought of a deep-fried pakora and samosa can make your mouth water, especially if you haven’t eaten for the last couple of hours, but remember they might be the reason for your laziness during the day. The oil laden food fills your body with unnecessary and unhealthy fats –  it makes you feel drowsy and sleepy.

In order to stay fit and active while fasting, taking a healthy and balanced diet is the key. A perfect Ramadan shopping list includes all the necessary carbohydrates, protein, and good fats to help you lay a healthy and nutrition rich feast on your tables.

According to the experts, eating food rich in fiber and protein will help you stay active and fit during the day. Expert choices include whole wheat bread, brown rice, oats, eggs etc. if you indulge yourself in after-iftar meals; make sure to include some vegetables, and protein in the form of meat or fish.

To stay healthy during Ramadan make sure to incorporate fruits and vegetables in your diet.

Pro Tip: Lessen the intake of salt and fat during the month.

Hydrate Yourself

In order to function properly one needs at least 2-3 litres of water daily, because we cannot consume this much amount of water while fasting, we feel lethargic and down.

Drinking excessive water right after breaking your fast might seem the answer to this issue, but it only satisfies you just for a few seconds and makes you feel heavy and sick throughout the rest of the day. Similarly, avoid drinking a gallon of water in suhoor.

From iftaar till suhoor remind yourself to drink plenty of water, to make up for the dehydration one might feel during the day.

Pro Tip: Avoid sugary drinks, as they only make you feel tired and weak.

Limit Your Caffeine Intake

Try to replace your daily dose of caffeine with dairy beverages

It gets quite difficult to get through the day without your morning tea or coffee. You will feel lazy and heavy headed, and caffeine might seem like the only solution, however, you might be wrong.

The solution is to limit your caffeine intake, not only does it affect your sleeping pattern, it also causes dehydration. Try to replace your daily dose of caffeine with dairy beverages, which are not only healthy but also keep you hydrated.  If you cannot replace your caffeine intake, limit it by taking only one cup of tea or coffee, after iftar to satisfy your craving.

Take a Walk

Taking a small and brisk walk increases your metabolism

Eating after a long day makes you sleepy and you might want to take a refreshing nap. However, taking a small walk is much better and helps you stay healthy during Ramadan.

Taking a small and brisk walk, not only increases your metabolism and stamina, but it also recharges you, so that you may stay active during Ramadan and especially after iftar to be productive.

Stay Indoors

The sun this Ramadan has been breathing down our necks, causing us to sweat excessively, and making us lose the stored minerals.

We cannot avoid sunlight like a deadly plague, however, we can try to lessen the hours spent outside daily. Try to spend the majority of your day indoors. Cool yourself and the temperature of your house by either fans or air-conditioner.

Exercising During Fasting

Make sure to fill your plate up with healthy vegetables

Exercising during fasting is quite harmful to your health and may cause dehydration, however it is just a misconception. For the individuals who regularly exercise, dropping their routine suddenly might not be good.  One of the key elements to staying fit during Ramadan, is to keep up with your workout routine.

Some workout tips during Ramadan might include doing some light cardio or going for a light jog. The best time to keep up with your routine in Ramadan is after iftar.

Pro Tip: Don’t overdo your workout routine, unless you don’t mind stiff muscles.

Fix Your Sleeping Schedule

The routine for most of us is disturbed throughout the month of Ramadan; we stay up till Suhoor and sleep in late. This sleeping schedule messes with your biological clock and causes laziness and fatigue.

In order to function well, we need at least 7-8 hours of sleep, but the routine we adopt, hinders us from doing so. Fix your sleeping schedule, sleep early, wake up for Suhoor and sleep after offering your Fajr prayers, so that you may function well throughout the day.

Pro Tip: Take a small nap after your Zuhr prayers, to make up for the lost sleep during the night.

These are some of the best tricks to help you stay active during Ramadan. If you think we have missed out on some important elements, write to us at blogs@jagahonline.com.For more content about Ramadan, stay updated with JagahOnline Blogs and follow us on Facebook.
