Polio virus reappears in Karachi

The presence of the wild polio virus was confirmed by samples from all key areas of Karachi, when the World Health Organization (WHO) said the eradication program in Pakistan was no longer on track. The most recent environmental study, conducted by the Emergency Operation Cell team, shows the presence of wild polio virus (WPV1) in 11 different parts of Karachi. Particularly affected are Gadap, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Landhi, Saddar, Korangi, Orangi Town, SITE and Liaqatabad. According to the survey, samples were collected between April and May of this year at six locations in Gadap, four locations in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and two locations each in Saddar, Landhi and Orangi Town - areas known as WPV1.
